That’s not how you land a plane… Pilots show off skills in Spain

Extremely high winds in northern Spain forced pilots to crack out their extra special skills book as planes were literally swept across the runway.

If you’ve ever had any doubts about how tough piloting a plane is then you obviously haven’t seen this video.

This video footage captures planes landing at Bilbao’s Loiu Airport in Spain during the week. Sweeping winds forced some pilots to abort the landing process, which is clearly seen by the smaller leer jet whose pilot bails at the last second as he’s swept to the left of the runway.

According to cdanielsnews on YouTube, “The Basque country registered winds of over 81 miles per hour (130 kilometres). The State Meteorological Agency said winds reached up to 40 miles per hour (65 kilometres) at Loiu Airport, the daily Diario Vasco reported.

“AENA, the airport authority said high winds had affected air travel resulting in four aircraft being re-routed to different airports. Bilbao’s airport, however, remained open throughout the bad weather. There were no cancellations but the conditions forced pilots to use their skills.” Mad skills if you ask us.

So the next time you see a group of pilots walking through the airport and you muffle ‘f*cking fly boys, with all the money and all those women’ under your breath just remember that they’re the guys keeping your ass safe in the sky.
