According to a recent poll, the Irish and British are the ‘least romantic’ when it comes to showing the love around Valentine’s Day.
As you’ve already guessed, our European neighbours have come out on top as the biggest schmoozers in town when it comes to love. The Spanish, French, Italians and Germans like to splash out for weekend ‘love’ breaks, compared to the Irish who would rather stay in and watch Fair City, with a cheap bottle of wine.
Irish couples spend the least amount of money on weekend breaks away over Valentine’s Day with the average spend totalling just €160 making us, as The Telegraph puts it, ‘the least romantic’. However, the Brits aren’t any better as they only shell out €173 on average. The extra €13 for the pies on the plane.
The Spaniards are officially the biggest spenders in Europe as they average €260 per trip. In third was the French (€248), followed by the Italians (€210) and the Germans (€182).
London came out on top as the favourite destination for Irish couples traveling to the UK. While Barcelona came out on top as the favourite city break for Irish Couples and it also came out as the top choice for the Italians too.
The poll was conducted by the travel website lastminute.com.
So there you have it lads, we’re all cheapskates.
