Tiger Woods has switched putters for the first time in 11 years.
Woods is preparing for The Open at St Andrews later this week and has decided to discard the putter which won him 13 of his 14 majors. He has been using the new putter in practice with fellow American Mark O’Meara (pictured above left) before Thursday’s first round.
“I’ve always struggled on slower greens and the one I’ve gone to this week comes off faster and I’ve had to make very little adjustment,†Woods told BBC Sport.
The world number one is still trying to shake off a continuing probe into his private life – specifically, the state of his marriage with Elin Nordegren.
“It doesn’t impact on it at all,” he said. “I’m here to play the old course at St Andrews – the home of golf – it’s as good as it gets. I would like to win no matter what.”
