Tim Clark claimed the Players Championship at Sawgrass last night and hit a superb 67 to fend off the challenges of Robert Allenby and Lee Westwood.

Westwood had begun the final round leading the field, however, the South African, Clark, pulled back the three shot deficit to finish on 16-under-par to clinch the championship from Robert Allenby who finished one shot behind.

World number four, Westwood, played a horrendous back nine which saw him plunder his tee-shot into the water on the par-three 17th hole.

Clark’s six birdies on the final day ensured him a first ever US PGA Tour victory.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods withdrew from the tournament with a neck injury after six holes yesterday.
