Today at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival we get to see the first ‘Surprise Film’ of the festival and an Irish scary movie, Tin Can Man.
Light House Cinema:
Sherlock Jr. – 2.00pm
A film projectionist longs to be a detective, and puts his meagre skills to work when he is framed by a rival for stealing his girlfriend’s father’s pocket watch.
Orpheé – 3.45pm
Orpheé is a poet who becomes obsessed with Death. So much so that he falls in love with it. Orphee’s wife, Eurydice, is killed by the Death’s henchmen and Orphee goes into the Underworld to find her.
Invisible – 6.00pm
Two women meet by chance and discover they were both raped by a serial rapist some years ago. Individually and together they must confront the past and finally move on with their lives.
This Is Not A Film – 6.00pm
This clandestine documentary, shot partially on an iPhone and smuggled into France in a cake for a last-minute submission to Cannes, depicts the day-to-day life of acclaimed director Jafar Panahi during his house arrest in his Tehran apartment.
The Jewel – 6.00pm
Deception, betrayal, and sleight of hand lie at the heart of this gripping drama of corporate intrigue. When multi-nationals threaten the existence of a family-owned dairy business, the company patriarch and his loyal financial advisor must find a way to keep the company from going under.
Tin Can Man – 8.00pm
Tin Can Man is a terrifying exercise in cinematic terror. It’s loosely based on a series of bizarre, grisly and seemingly copycat murders in 1892, 1926 and 1957. This film is a imagining of what may have happened to the victims. Just watching the trailer below will make your nightmares have nightmares.
Le Havre – 8.30pm
When an African boy arrives by cargo ship in the port city of Le Havre, an ageing shoe shiner takes pity on the child and welcomes him into his home.
Amador – 8.35pm
Amador is a drama centred on a young woman who takes a summer job caring for a bed-ridden older man. The two become friendly and begin to tell intimate secrets they with one another.
Savoy:
The Yellow Sea – 11.00am
The story of a cab driver in Yanji City, a region between North Korea, China and Russia. His wife goes to Korea to earn money, but he doesn’t hear from her for 6 months.
Cineworld:
Black Gold – 1.30pm
Set in the 1930s Arab states at the dawn of the oil boom, the story centres on a young Arab prince torn between allegiance to his conservative father and modern, liberal father-in-law.
The Mole – 2.00pm
A polish man notices his elderly father Zygmunt is suddenly accused by the local paper of having acted as a secret informer called THE MOLE during the communist regime.
Footnotes – 4.15pm
Eliezer and Uriel Shkolnik are father and son as well as rival professors in Talmudic Studies. When both men learn that Eliezer will be lauded for his work, their complicated relationship reaches a new peak.
Turn Me On Goddammnit – 4.15pm
Here is 15 year old Alma. Alma is cute, has lots of friends and is a funny girl, but there is one thing missing in her life; she has not got her Artur – the school’s eye candy.
