In May the world learnt of a two-year-old boy who developed a genuine smoking addiction after his father supposedly introduced his son to cigarettes at the tender age of 11 months in an attempt to cure a headache for the child.

Little Aldi Rizal has struggled through three months of intensive treatment to put an end to his smoking days under Indonesia’s National Commission Child Protection Supervision.

Financial strain had taken its toll on Aldi’s parents who eventually sought help for their son as they could not continue to fund his $5-a-day habit.

Aldi’s father Mohammed, who earns a living as a fishmonger, insisted that the smoking addiction had no effect on his son’s health, however, doctors discovered Aldi’s heart had developed a thicker ling and he often looked vacant or listless.

The Sun revealed the shocking story to the world initially and now there’s good news for Aldi and his family. The toddler has managed to control his cravings (he used to throw tantrums if he didn’t get his fix) and can now play normally like other children his age.

Below is footage of Aldi when he smoked like a trooper – he had even perfected the art of puffing smoke rings:
