The Dark Knight Rises and Inception star Tom Hardy is set to play the lead role in the latest video game turned movie, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

During the summer we heard the news that the Irish-German actor Michael Fassbender would be playing the lead role in Ubisoft’s film adaptation of the game Assassin’s Creed. Well now Ubisoft have announced that the British actor Tom Hardy will be playing the lead role in the film adaptation of the video game Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

Speaking about Hardy appearing in the new film, Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures said: “Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills.

“His involvement in the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and we’re confident he’ll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans.”

So what’s it all about? Well Hardy will play the role of Sam Fisher, a retired US Navy SEAL who has been called in by the National Security Agency in order to investigate the disappearance of two CIA operatives in Europe.

Well, that’s how the first game goes, but the movie could be a bit different. It doesn’t matter either way. We’re just glad a badass like Tom Hardy gets to play one of our favourite video game characters of all time.
