Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni will be forced to undergo surgery this afternoon.
The FAI announced on their website that Trappatoni’s “progress overnight has been slightly behind expectations and after being seen by his consultant, he will undergo further investigations, including x-rays this morning.â€
It was added later in an update that “it has been decided that the abdominal pain is as a result of minor scar tissue from previous surgery. To relieve the pain, he will undergo minor surgery at 3 p.m. today.”
Trappattoni has been in hospital since Tuesday morning, after falling ill with suspected food poisoning.
Assistant manager Mario Tardelli will take charge of the team for tonight’s friendly against Argentina at the Aviva Stadium.
