Ulster and Ireland winger Andrew Trimble is expected to be out for up to three months after undergoing surgery this morning on a dislocated finger on his left hand, Ulster Rugby have confirmed.
Trimble sustained the injury in the game against the All-Blacks in New Plymouth on 12 June, the first game of Ireland’s tour of the southern hemisphere.
Trimble subsequently participated in the game against Australia two weeks later, but an investigation into the injury on his return to Ulster revealed the full extent of the injury.
It is anticipated that Trimble will be out of action for 10-12 weeks, meaning that he will miss up to seven games in the Magners League, while he will be a major doubt for the province’s Heineken Cup pool 4 matches against Aironi and Biarritz in October.
