Two health workers working for the HSE lost their jobs recently as they were a bit too fond of the awl sick days.
If you take one too many sick days without a good legitimate reason then you’ll wind up having a lifetime of sickies that you can use whenever you want – because you won’t have a job. That looks to be the case with the HSE lately as they’re currently taking a ‘get tough’ approach to unnecessary sickies.
According to the HSE director John Hennessy, the two staff came from the support services and they lost their jobs over ‘persistent absenteeism’.
Mr Hennessy said: “They were simply unable to render reliable service to the organisation that was paying them,” reports the Irish Independent.
“It does move into a four-stage process: repeated warnings, letters, final warnings, but eventually it does reach the final stages and we have had two in the recent two or three months.”
Back in September it was reported that 1,100 staff were out sick every day in the HSE West area. That’s an area that covers 10 counties stretching from Donegal to Limerick.
So you can see where they’re coming from with their ‘get tough approach’.
