Under-used Cox prepared to uproot and leave the Baggies

Fed up at the lack of opportunities at the Hawthorns, Irish international Simon Cox is prepared to leave West Brom in order to get more first-team football ahead of Euro 2012.

With fellow international Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie providing penetration up front, Cox has been left out in the cold at the Baggies and has started only two Premier League games so far this season.

Long and Cox have been denied the chance to form a hilarious-sounding and potentially dangerous partnership for Roy Hodgson’s side and with Euro 2012 fast approaching, Cox is prepared to move on, or even go on loan, to ensure he’ll be in full working order by the time the Boys in Green head to Polkraine in the summer.

Asked if he would leave West Brom on a permanent basis, the spiky haired frontman replied: “I don’t know. If someone comes in to buy me and it’s the right price, and the chairman and manager say ‘yes’ then it’s out of my hands.

“If they say ‘no’ and a loan is the preferred option, then that’s the sort of road we might have to go down. It’s a decision we’re going to have to make as a club and myself and my family in the next couple of weeks.”

This is the second time in a month that Cox has expressed a willingness to move away from the Baggies, so it looks as if his days at the Hawthorns could be numbered, for a few months at least.

Comfortable in the hole or through the middle, Cox would be a decent striking option for many clubs in the January transfer window, although he might have to drop down a division to get the regular first team football he craves.

He’s not exactly first choice, but with Shane Long currently suffering the latest in what has been series of injuries, Kevin Doyle off-colour and Robbie in limbo (for a few days at least), we need as many of our strikers firing as possible and a move away may be just what the doctor ordered.
