A passenger on board a Turkish Airlines plane flying from Istanbul managed to record the moment the engine ignited after being hit by a lightening strike.

Earlier on we had a little rant about why airports suck, and here we see why flying can be just as daunting. The plane in question was preparing to land in at Izmir, Turkey, last night according to the Telegraph, when it was hit by lightning, causing the right engine to ignite.

It looks like a scene from a horror show, when the main character looks out the window to see a gremlin chewing away at the wing, but sadly for those involved this wasn’t being recorded for TV.

Ever heard of ‘Nightmare at 20,000 feet?’

Thankfully, the plane landed safely and all 114 people on board were unhurt, but we’re sure it was an experience they’ll never forget.
