It might be December already, but this goal from Argentina is a late shout for goal of the season
Marcelo Vidal of Independiente hit the headlines in Argentina this weekend after he smashed in this long-range free kick in the 87th minute of a game against Patronato in the Primera B Nacional, and it is quite simply incredible.
The 22-year-old steps up to take charge of a free kick inside his own half, before unleashing an incredibly powerful shot which which Argentine paper La Razón described as a “diabolic shoeing”, in the sense that only Satan himself could have spawned a shot this powerful. Or at least that’s how we’re choosing to translate it. The result, coupled with the fact that Crucero del Norte weren’t able to get a win the next night, meant that Independiente got the win and finished the season in the promotion spots, so it was a pretty important goal too.
In the words of Alan Partridge, “Boof! Eat my goal. The goalie has got football pie all over his shirt”.
