The French-Canadian jazz singer Alexis Normand was tasked with singing the American national anthem ahead of the Memorial Cup yesterday, but to say she ‘butchered it’ is a bit of an understatement.
Yesterday saw the Saskatoon Blades take on the Halifax Mooseheads in the MasterCard Memorial Cup, but the score wasn’t the only thing to make headlines following the match.

While it’s a fairly terrible performance – even the crowd chimes in to help – you have to remember that Alexis is Canadian (the French kind) and not American, so she wouldn’t have known the American national anthem that well to begin with. So we feel a bit bad for her.
Alexis has also come under fire over on Twitter, but she has already tweeted to say sorry for her c*ck-up.
