That can be the only explanation for the spot of bum fondling that went on in the Chelsea bench at White Hart Lane last night.
With the game tied at 1-1 and Didier Drogba noticeably tiring up front, the out of favour Torres was summoned by Andre Villas Boas in an attempt to grab a last-ditch winner for the Blues.
At this stage, Chelsea had already made two enforced substitutions so Frank Lampard knew he wouldn’t be going on and made his way back to the bench. On his way back, he grabbed Torres’ arse in what can only be described as an affectionate fondle before the Spaniard entered the fray.
Certainly, his hand lingered for a few seconds and there also seems to be a bit of a pinching motion used by Lampard at the last second. It was very far removed from the jock-style pat on the ass that you might see in American football and you could never imagine any teammate trying it on, for example, Francie Bellew, on the GAA fields.
Still, maybe Lampard should be spared our ridicule on this occasion. After all, Torres needs all the love he can get at the moment.
