An 18-year-old lad from Colorado is currently in the red for $3700 (€2900) after attempting an ‘escalator helicopter’ that didn’t quite go to plan.

Andrew Nichols was out with some friends in the Colorado Springs Mall when one of his buddies, 18-year-old Joe Szklarski, decided to try doing an ‘escalator helicopter’. Basically, you lie across two escalator rails that are moving in opposite directions, and this spins you around like a helicopter… apparently.

Sadly for young Szklarski, the escalator walls buckled under his weight and smashed costing him $3700 in fees.

Speaking to ninemsn.com.au, Nichols said, “So my friend broke the escalator at the mall,”

“US$3700 ($3542) in fees.”

“It still is as funny as crap and I’ve seen it so many times!”

As for Szklarski, he said, “I couldn’t afford to replace another.”
