The Argentinean genius can do little wrong at the moment, except when he is confronted by a large group of excitable Japanese journalists.
Having won the man of the match award during Barca’s 4-0 humbling of Santos in the FIFA World Club Championship Final yesterday, Messi was presented with a giant gold key, which may or not have been representative of the Toyota car he walked away with for being the star man.
Messi had to go through the formalities of a post-match interview after winning the award, and looked genuinely scared when confronted by a television crew, one of whom planted a kiss on his cheek while another unsuccessfully attempted to wrap him up in a big black jacket.
The little genius stands there with a bewildered expression on his face while the crew point, laugh and chatter at about hundred miles an hour, with one particularly excited man in a suit even bowing in his direction.
Messi stands shuffling his feet for a minute before uttering a quick line in Spanish and exiting quicker than the two Manchester clubs from the Champions League.
So the lesson to be learned about how to stop Lionel Messi is to present him with a giant gold key and stick him in front of a crowd of a terribly strange Japanese television crew.
That’s not going to happen again anytime soon, of course, at least until he’s inevitably picking up the same man of the match award after next year’s world club final.
