Irish womens’ football has been on a high over the last while after the country’s under 19 side reached the European Championship semi final in July and Raheny United qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League last week.
The Republic of Ireland senior team kept up the momentum last night thanks to a 2-0 win over Slovenia in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier at Tallaght Stadium. Julie-Ann Russell and Fiona O’Sullivan scored the vital goals but Russell’s strike was something special.
The midfielder struck a free kick from all of 35 yards out and it sailed into the top corner, beautiful stuff…
