The folly of broadcasting live from a football match at an unguarded pitch-side location was exposed for all too see on ESPN this evening, albeit with hilarious consequences.
Prior to the Arsenal v Leeds FA Cup clash at the Emirates, grizzly ex-Gunners defender Martin Keown was rattled on the side of the head with a football that was thumped in his direction by one of the Leeds players (Michael Brown, apparently) during the warm-up.
Keown eventually laughed off the incident, but the initial anger that was bubbling under the surface was all too evident. Presenter Rebecca Lowe and Robbie Savage were consumed with fear, fearing a psychotic reaction from the big fellah, but he calmed down shortly afterwards.
We haven’t seen Keown look that deranged ever since he chased after Ruud van Nistelrooy at Old Trafford all those years back, and we’re sure if the former United striker was tuning in, he would have turned the long face into a smiling one for a few seconds.
Have a chuckle at Martin’s misfortune for yourself by watching the video above.
