The neighbourhood of Harlem is currently enjoying some renewed fame thanks to the viral sensation called the Harlem Shake. But what do local residents think of the ‘dance’?
“I feel like they’re trying to disrespect us…” That’s just what one bloke from Harlem thinks of the Harlem Shake. In fact, that’s pretty much what everyone in this video has to say about the dance – if you can call it that.
So where did it all begin? Apparently, the original shake was created back in 1981 and it became ‘mainstream’ back in 2001 when G. Dep featured it (somewhere) in his music video for the track “Let’s Get It”. You can watch it below…
While the Harlem Shake has certainly received a lot more attention in the past two weeks than it has in the past 20 years, the good old people of Harlem, New York, don’t seem too pleased.
