A new report by the Road Safety Authority shows that where you live could affect your chances of passing the driving test first time.

If you’ve failed your driving test on more than one occasion then you might want to pack up and move somewhere else, because you could just be living in a bad area… for passing your driving test, that is.

The unpublished report, which was obtained by the Irish Independent, shows that just over half of learners pass their test first time – 54.56 per cent to be exact. However, that means there are still a lot of people failing.

Apparently, there’s a sizeable 28 per cent difference between the highest and lowest ranking driving centres in the country. Roughly two-thirds of drivers passed the test in the Ennis centre during 2011 while only around one third passed in Kilkenny and Rathgar.

So why do more people pass in one test centre compared to the other? Well, it’s not like the inspector has anything against you… well, probably.

According to the RSA, the variation is normal and in line with European trends. The fact that some test centres take on many more learner drivers than others will also have an affect on the results, reports the RSA.

Ah well, you could still chance your arm moving to Ennis if you’re taking the test for your fifth time.
