Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington and Lee Westwood all failed to beat par in the third round of the St Jude Classic but the latter remains in contention for outright victory.

Harrington, who started brightly on Thursday but fell off the pace following a second round 74, went round in 71 to lie on level par for the tournament, eleven strokes off the lead held by Robert Garrigus.

McIlroy had moved into contention with a four-under par 66 on Day 2 but could manage just a 72 in his third round for a three-under par total of 207 (eight off the lead).

Westwood, a top 10 finisher in nine of his last 12 outings on the PGA Tour, remains in the hunt for a first ever victory in the US despite limping to a 71.

He lies three off the lead going into Sunday’s final round, with Sweden’s Robert Karlsson currently on his own in second place, two behind Garrigus.
