Ahead of the French Open in Paris, Lee Westwood was taken to hospital with a suspected blood clot in his right leg.
World number three Westwood was examined on the practise range, before being rushed to hospital by his wife Laurie.
Stuart Cage, who works for Westwood’s management company International Sports Management, said: “Lee felt pain in the calf and it was swollen yesterday.
“But when he woke this morning his ankle was swollen too, so he decided to have it checked out in the physio truck.
“The French doctor there thought it could be a blood clot and said Lee should go to hospital for tests.
“He has not pulled out of the tournament yet because he is still really keen to play. A decision will not be taken until the results of the tests are known.
“Obviously he has to take the doctor’s decision seriously because it’s a very important time of the year with The Open coming up.â€
Westwood has had an excellent last 12 months, coming in the top three in the British Open, the US Open and the US Masters.
