Wexford 1- 11 – 0-13 Galway
Wexford progressed to Round 3 of the qualifiers after a dramatic late victory over Galway on Saturday afternoon at Pearse Stadium.
Ciaran Lyng fired over a point in the fourth minute of injury time to seal the win for the Model County, who were two points behind in the dying stages before staging a late rally to seal the victory.
Lyng was in fantastic form throughout, finishing with a personal tally of 1-6, while Padraic Joyce continued his run of good form for Galway, scoring six points from full forward.
Joyce’s exploits were not enough to save the Tribesmen, however and their early exit marks a disappointing first year in charge for new manager Joe Kernan.
Cork 1-19 – Cavan 0-4
Cork breezed through to Round 3 of the qualifiers after a comfortable victory over Cavan at Páirc Uà Chaoimh on Saturday afternoon.
There was only one side in it from the off as Cork raced into a 0-9 – 0-1 half time lead. The Rebels never took their foot of the pedal in the second half put the game beyond all reasonable doubt when Pearse O’Neill netted in the 51st minute.
Daniel Goulding and Colm O’Neill also figured prominently for Cork, while manager Conor Counihan was also able to give Nicholas Murphy some valuable game time from the bench as the midfielder continues his comeback from injury.
