According to figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), the Ford Focus was Ireland’s best selling car in 2011.
The Ford Focus sold a total of 4,209 units during the year to top the sales chart, placing the model 242 units ahead of its nearest competitor, the VW Golf.
It’s not surprising that the Focus is Ireland’s favourite car. Since 1998, 9.2 million Ford Focuses have been sold worldwide making it one of the best selling cars available.
So, it’s good that we featured the 2012 model in JOE’s Top Five cars to watch out for in 2012 along with the BMW I Series and the much-anticipated Toyota/Subaru FT-86.
Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director of Ford Ireland, commented: “We are thrilled that the new Focus is again Ireland’s favourite car.
“With the new model arriving late in the first quarter, outside of the normally brisk sales period at the start of the year, there was a danger that the model would be playing catch up, but thanks to the outstanding market reaction to the new model, that has not been the case.
“Overall, the buoyant start to the year is likely to peter out given the general economic outlook and we foresee total car sales across all models to be in the region of 85,000 units in 2012”.
Will the Focus retain its title as Ireland’s favourite car for 2012? Well, it’s hardly going to be the Tato Nano now is it?
