There has been a lot of talk as of late about Anglo Irish Bank and a certain musical, but what is it all about? Has someone actually made a musical about the collapse of Anglo?

No, you’re right there. A musical about a bank going under doesn’t sound too gripping, but how does a musical about a bank going under, which includes puppets, sound?
Puppets? Now I’m interested. Explain…
Ah yeah, now you’re interested… The musical that everyone has been talking about is simply called “Anglo: The Musical”. It’s not a boring dreary look at how the Irish banking system went down the jacks, instead it pokes fun at and jokes about the people who got us into the Anglo mess – using puppets, of course.
People like whom?
Bertie Ahern and Sean FitzPatrick mainly, but there’s appearances from a few other well-known faces too (albeit in puppet form).
It’s not some sort of kids show is it, what with all these puppets?
Dear God no. In fact, it is probably better to leave the kids at home for this one. It features puppets, yes, but it also features real people too, and the mouths on some of the puppets are ‘foul’ to say the least. Have a listen to Bertie in the video below to see what we mean:
Right, I see what you mean. So who’s the genius behind the show?
It comes to us from the Irish lads who are famous for Dustin The Turkey, Ross O’Carroll Kelly, Langerland.tv and Anonymous. Names like Paul Howard, Johnny Morrison, Darren Smith and Colm Tobin all made a contribution to the show, so if you’re into satirical Irish humour then you’re sure to love this. They’re all a bunch of funny lads so we can only imagine that this latest piece of work will be as good as their others.
It is billed as “a story about love, ambition, greed, corruption, economic meltdown and copious amounts of decking and pesto”.
And with song titles like “Put a Zero on the End, He’s My Friend” and “Putting on the Fitz” it has to be a good laugh.

The musical is being previewed in the Board Gais Energy Theatre on Tuesday 13 November but it officially kicks off on Wednesday 14 and continues on until Sunday 25 November. You can check out more about the show over on the Board Gais Energy Theatre website.
