Irish funny men and Limerick natives the Rubberbandits recently made a science video that briefly features Louis Walsh. We want to know why…

So why have the Rubberbandits made a science video?

Well, the Rubberbandits have teamed up with Discover Science and Engineering in order to promote Science Week here in Ireland. It all kicks off on November 11 and runs right through to November 18.

Basically, the aim of Science Week is to promote the relevance of science, technology, engineering and maths in our everyday lives and to demonstrate their importance to the future development of Irish society and to the economy.

Remember back in school when you said, “Why do I have to learn algebra? I’ll never use it in real life.” Well, the lads running Science Week will show you exactly how we apply the ‘boring’ stuff you learned in school to our everyday lives.

Oh right. So what’s going down on science week? Scientific stuff I assume?

It’s called Science Week for a reason. There are literally hundreds of different science events taking place all across the country over Science Week. They range from guessing the length of time before a cork pops off a bottle to free sports health screenings from the IT Carlow Sport Science students.

Head on over to the Science Week website for more info on what’s going down. Honestly, it would be hard not to find something you’re interested in.

Cool, so back to the video. What do the lads get up to?

Well they’re attempting to show us a little hands on chemistry. Firstly, the lads do the old Mentos in diet cola trick and they also use a cardboard cut out of Louis Walsh to demonstrate the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide – we’re not sure why.

We also see the lads talking to Professor Luke O’Neill from Trinity College Dublin about communion wafers and whether or not they actually hold the body of Christ.

They’re asking a scientist about religion? That probably didn’t end well.

Well, it’s the Rubberbandits we’re talking about, so they’re obviously taking the p*ss.

Ah I suppose. Anything else I should know?

Not that we can think of anyway. Just remember Science Week takes place all across the country from November 11 to November 18 and all the details can be found on the Science Week website.
