World number one Serena Williams broke Billie Jean King’s record of Grand Slam tennis titles after defeating Vera Zvonareva in the Women’s Singles Final at Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon.
Williams landed her fourth Wimbledon crown and the thirteenth Grand Slam title of her career after defeating the number 21 seed Zvonareva on a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2 on Centre Court.
Zvonareva started brightly and traded service games with Williams until the eighth game of the first set, when Williams broke and subsequently won her next service game to take the first set.
The American broke Zvonareva immediately in the second set and never looked in danger thereafter, taking just 66 minutes in total to seal the victory.
