Serena Williams overcame Petra Kvitova today to progress to the final of Wimbledon.
The World number one Williams defeated the unseeded Czech Kvitova 7-6 6-2 in an hour and a half on centre court.
The American was made to work for her victory, as she was 5-3 down in the first set, before recovering to take it on a tie-break.
“It wasn’t easy, I worked really hard,” Williams said.
“I didn’t expect to get this far the way I started at the beginning of the tournament. I just felt off, but I’m happy to still be here. It’s such a blessing to just be in the tournament.”
Williams, who has 80 aces at Wimbledon so far, will face Vera Zvonareva in Saturday’s final after the Russian 21st seed was victorious over Tsvetana Pironkova 3-6 6-3 6-2.
