It’s only hours away from the start of this year’s BAFTA Film Awards and it looks like Irishman Michael Fassbender could take home the top prize.
Ah yes, Michael Fassbender. Irish, born and bred. Well, born in Germany to an Irish mother and a German father who eventually moved to Killarney when Michael was two-years-old. But that’s beside the point. He’s as Irish as they come.
Our Michael has been nominated for best leading actor and already we’ve heard plenty of rumours that he’s the favourite to walk away with the top prize for his portrayal of a sex addict in Shame.
However, Fassbender is up against tough competition as Brad Pitt (Moneyball), George Clooney (The Descendants), Gary Oldman (Tinker, Taylor, Solider, Spy) and Jean Dujardin (The Artist) are also in the running for the top prize.
We also have another Irishman up for nomination in the BAFTA Awards. Chris O’Dowd, of Bridesmaids fame) is up for the Orange Rising Star Award category. However he doesn’t think he “has a chance in hell”, according to a recent interview with BANG Showbiz.
And before we forget, The Guard is up for best original screenplay at the awards, so we’ve a lot to look forward to.
You can watch the BAFTA Awards on BBC1 tonight at 9.00pm.
