College fees are on the rise and already students are finding it hard to fork over the cash, but new recommendations suggest that fees should increase to as much as €6,000 per year.
As a college student, it’s hard enough to pay for messy nights out with the lads, keeping the missus happy and paying for your motor without having to pay for education and the likes, but it’s only going to get tougher according to new recommendations by the Higher Education Authority (HEA).
This September, it will cost college goers €2,250 in registration fees, and that will increase over the next three years. However, there’s currently no set figure as to how much it will cost in 2015, but the Irish Independent reports that it could be in the region of €6,000 per year. Yikes.
We can’t help but feel that if college fees rise to that level, more and more people won’t bother their a*se with college but is that what the country really needs right now?
Minister for Education, Ruairi Quinn, made a pre-election promise to not introduce college fees, but as it currently costs the state between €10,000 and €30,000 to fund one year’s worth of education, it looks like he has no other option.
Would you consider going to college if the fees were that high?
