If you’re heading out in Cork this week then you can virtually check out what some of the local pubs have to offer before you even leave your own front door.

Google Street View has given us many things, from a virtual look at what lies on the other side of the world to a fantastic way to waste some time while finding out what your neighbours were up to when the Street View cameras rolled by. Now, however, it also allows you to take a look inside your favourite pubs, without having to step foot inside.

You can thank the certified ‘Google-trusted photographer’ John Roche for capturing the pubs like you’ve never seen them before (i.e. seeing them sober).  Bars like Long Valley, Le Chateau, and Market Lane have all had the virtual treatment and publicans hope the new virtual tour will help to boost business.

Speaking about the virtual tours to the Irish Examiner Roche said, ‘This is much better than watching a video. It is far more interactive, with the viewers controlling where they want to go in the premises. It is a series of images that are drawn together using software provided by Google.’

Roche now hopes that businesses in Kerry will jump aboard the virtual bandwagon. Sure it’s only a matter of time before they all do…

So go on, head over to Google Maps and see if your favourite pub has been given the virtual treatment, like the long valley below.
