Drum roll please. The holder of the Guinness World Record for producing 318 million tyres per year is… not Goodyear or even Michelin. So who is it?
Being the best at something is usually decided by the good people at the Guinness Book of World Records and seeing as more people buy the record book than the bible, you can be certain that the records are legit. So that’s why we’re a tad surprised to hear that Lego is actually the world’s biggest tyre manufacturer – because it’s actually true!
Lego produces 870,000 tyres every day at it’s headquarters in Billund, Denmark, which is more than the biggest tyre manufacturers out there, such as Goodyear and Michelin.
Seeing as almost half of Lego sets use wheels of some sort the factory has to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Speaking about the accomplishment, Emma Owen, PR and promotions manager at Lego UK said: “Being awarded the Guinness World Records title for ‘Largest tyre manufacture per annum’ is likely to be a surprise to many, but not to us and we are thrilled to take this record, 50 years after the invention of the Lego tyre.
“Naturally we have previously broken records for creating the tallest Lego towers, however with Lego, creativity holds no bounds and we have adopted this theory and looked outside the box with this latest world record challenge.”
Looked outside the box… Now that’s good PR.
