A tongue-in-cheek Tweet by Johnny Marr of The Smiths, The The and Modest Mouse fame ended up becoming bigger news than North Korea this weekend.
“David Cameron, stop saying that you like The Smiths, no you don’t. I forbid you to like it,” Marr Tweeted on 2 December.
This was taken very seriously – the Guardian alone had four articles about it on their website, and former Smith Morrissey wrote a very serious e-mail on his website defending Marr and denouncing stag hunting.
The following day, Marr tweeted, “I see the recession has affected some people’s sense of humour. Lighten up Boris,” before Tweeting “Nick Clegg, hand over your iPod…” on the 4th.
