Though brace-scoring hero Wayne Rooney is yet to join Twitter, teammate Rio Ferdinand bigged up the English striker’s resolve in ending his Premier League goal drought Tuesday night.
One of the best-known UK sportsmen on the micro-blogging site, Rio won plaudits for his denouncement of Andy Gray and Martin Greys sexist remarks as prehistoric last week (should we bring up the 100 girls hand-picked for the club’s Christmas bash a few years ago?) and plied on the charm once more Wednesday night for his sometimes misfiring striker teammate.
‘Top performance 2nite from the lads, rooney was on fire + looking sharp scoring 2 quality goals! Nani with another assist+ Rooooney…Boom!’ tweeted Rio to his 500,000 followers after the home fixture.
‘Can’t sleeeep! Adrenalin still pumping through the system!! Roll on saturday at wolves-will be a tough game that one for sure, love it though.’
As for the club’s hope of winning a 19th league title, Rio told his followers, ‘We certainly haven’t written Chelsea off. They are a big, strong side and we know if anyone is capable of going on a run it is them.’
