We wouldn’t like to find one of these anywhere…
We don’t know if we mentioned it but JOE is a real wimp when it comes to bugs and creepy crawlies. Just look at what happened when a bee came into the office.
So the sight of this massive insect is not doing much for our appetite coming up to lunch.
This beast of a bug was found by Gary Carroll while on holiday in Ardamine, Co Wexford in his holiday home. Gary and his family thought it might be a deadly Asian Hornet.
Gary told the Irish Mirror what happened “Me, my wife and my son were watching television when my wife noticed it.
“It was stuck in the creases in the curtains so I decided to get a glass and capture it. It didn’t respond like a wasp would.
“They always keep flying around but this thing just wanted to stop.
“At the time I thought it was a really big wasp or a queen but then I thought it was far too big.
“It had two stings at the back and one was much bigger than the other.”
“My wife was panicking and asking was there a nest but we only saw one.
“I went back inside and came back half an hour later and it was dead. I inspected it closer then.
“I think it’s definitely a hornet. Maybe not one of the killer ones that are in France but definitely some type.
Asian Hornets have killed seven people since 2004 in France and have spread to Spain, Portugal, Germany and Belgium.
