Here’s the weather forecast for this Bank Holiday weekend

It's distinctly Irish

It’s distinctly Irish.

TGIF ladies and gents because the long weekend is upon us and unless you happen to be stuck in your office or you’re just reluctant to move off your couch, it’s time to start making some plans.

To be honest, those nice people at Met Éireann are once again the bearers of bad news because the weather has that familiar wet, cold and windy look to it. It’s almost as Irish as Sean O’Brien eating a packet of Tayto on the farm.

Today is expected to be mild, cloudy and breezy with scattered outbreaks of rain this morning in the southwestern, western and northwestern counties. Low and behold, this rain is expected to be more more persistent as the afternoon develops.

It seems that we’re all going to need the brolly/hoodie with us later tonight though because a spell of heavy rain is expected in all areas for a time.

Much like that glorious lie-in that instantly improves your weekend, Saturday’s weather will get better with sunny spells developing throughout the morning although scattered showers are also expected with heavy rainfall in the western and northern regions.

Sunday will be mostly dry in the east and south with some bright spells but there’s expected to be rain at times in the western and northern parts.

As for Monday, well it doesn’t get much better if you live near the southern and western coasts because strong and gusty winds, up to gale force measure, are expected for those areas. It will be generally cloudy and there will be rain, most especially in western and southern areas with drier periods at times in the east, but the rain will become more widespread later in the day and on Monday night.

The overall outlook is to expect unsettled weather over the rest of the weekend. That’s pretty much the de facto mode for every Irish person though but it could be worse, today could be a Tuesday.

Here’s hoping that the nice people at Met Éireann are wrong about all of this and that we have a period of glorious weather. I doubt it though! Regardless of the conditions, enjoy your bank holiday weekend.
