Ireland has cracked the top 20 of today’s ‘Best Countries’ index

Not too shabby.

US News, in conjunction with WPP and the Wharton School, have released the ‘Best Countries’ list which ranks countries based on various metrics such as ‘Quality of Life’, ‘Power’, ‘Cultural Influence’ and ‘Adventure’.

Ireland narrowly made it into the top 20, finishing in 18th place, between China and South Korea.

Germany took the top spot (though we know their weak link – Shane Long and John O’Shea), with Canada, the UK (nah…), the USA and Sweden making up the top five.

Ireland performed better on some of the individual rankings, finishing 13th for Adventure, and 12th for Quality of Life.

We also inexplicably finish 23rd in the list of ‘Cultural Influence’. We’re pretty sure Beckett, Shaw, Wilde, Yeats, Heaney, our many Oscar-nominated actors and directors, the “Frostbit” guy and Bono would have something to say about that.

You can check all of the rankings here and flex your patriotism muscles with either rage or pride, depending on how good our ranking is in the given section.
