The largest container ship ever to call to an Irish Port is arriving into Cork and its cargo is pretty bananas

Carl Kinsella

No, literally. Its cargo is bananas.

Five million bananas to be exact. Just enough to deal with that King Kong problem we’ve been having lately.

Cork journalist Alan Healy has shared a photo of the gigantic ship on his Twitter, and as impressive as its size is, we can’t help but be amused by the fact that its carrying almost nothing but people and bananas.

It’s roughly 30 metres bigger than usual.

The vessel is expected to berth at 5am tomorrow morning, after which it will take no less than nine hours to unload.
