Twit of the Day
In an odd bid to stay relevant, MTV have just appointed their first TJ, or tweet-jockey, after announcing the winner of the US reality show, MTV TJ. After weeks of competition, blogger Gabi Gregg became the station’s first-ever TJ, with challenges including getting people to follow her on Twitter, answering questions about ‘her most memorable MTV moments’ and hosting impromptu ‘tweet-ups’ for her followers. Sounds like riveting television.
Gabi is the founder of a popular fat-acceptance (aka lazy) blog Young, Fat and Fabulous, and attributes much of her success to the plus-size community’s support.
“My main goal is to really connect with the audience,” she said. “I don’t want to be the same as the MTV Twitter; I want to keep it personable and keep in touch with the followers. I want to give them a voice.”
Gabi took over the previously studio-run MTV TJ account with her, eloquent tweet:
“Ommmmgggggg thank you to everyoneâ€
If you’re wondering exactly what a tweet-jockey does, or why anyone would pay someone to write 140 characters at a time, you’re not alone. You can follow Gabi here and hopefully we’ll both find out.
