From one extreme to another in the west.
It was so hot and humid all over the country on Tuesday that there was bound to be a backlash from the weather Gods and it arrived with a bang late on Tuesday night.
Some people were probably glad of the bursts of rain that arrived throughout the country, but there was plenty of rumbling in the skies above Mayo, where lightning struck in spectacular fashion.
JOE readers Kieran and Angela Dowd and Stephen Lennon sent us in evidence of the lightning above Claremorris and Castlebar and it would be enough to make a sensitive soul go diving behind the couch for cover.
