The unusual incident occurred in the early hours of this morning.
A man has been arrested by Gardaí after a van reportedly rammed into three separate gates at Government Buildings.
In a statement, Gardaí say they were alerted to a single-vehicle road crash on Merrion Street Upper, Dublin 2 at around 2.30am on Friday (2 August).
“The driver of the vehicle, a male in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act,” a Garda spokesperson added.
“He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Dublin city.
“The scene remains preserved to facilitate a technical examination by the local Scenes of Crime Unit this morning.”
According to multiple outlets, among the gates damaged include that of the Department of the Taoiseach and those beside the Office of the Attorney General.
The Garda spokesperson said investigations into the incident are “ongoing”.
