Social media star speaks out about 2FM Drivetime hosting rumours

“Did ye put in a good word for me?”

TikTok star Kayleigh Trappe has spoken out following rumours that she was set to take over the 2FM Drive hosting slot.

The former teacher, known for her lip-syncing videos on the popular social media platform, was one of the names reportedly in the hat to take over from Lottie Ryan following her departure from the show.

The hosting slot has gone through something of a merry-go-round since the shock departure of the 2 Johnnies in May.

However, speaking to the former Drivetime hosts on their podcast, the 28-year-old admitted that she didn’t hear anything from the national broadcaster about a potential role.

“First question, when do you start on 2FM?” joked Johnny B, to which Kayleigh replied, “no comment, no comment”.

“One minute I was sipping cocktails in Croatia on the beach, and the next I was due to start on Drivetime at 3 o’clock on Friday,” she told the hosts, much to their amusement.

She revealed that the worst part about being touted for the role was the congratulations from fellow media stars, including another big name from Monaghan.

“Tommy Bowe sent me this wee poem of congratulations,” she said, saying that she felt she let them all down.

“Listen, I’ll take a job if it’s going,” she said after confirming she doesn’t know where the rumour started.

“Radio is something I’d love to get into, don’t get me wrong, but I suppose as a lip-syncer, what are the chances when I don’t actually speak for a living?”

2FM’s New Music Show presenter Beta Da Silva is currently holding the role on Drivetime temporarily before a permanent host is found.

Beta previously presented Weekend Breakfast on 2FM before taking over the New Music Show. He is also the station voice of 2FM.

2FM has experienced something of a mass exodus in recent months, with Donncha O’Callaghan, The 2 Johnnies, Doireann Garrihy and Jennifer Zamparelli all calling it quits.

RTÉ recently announced an open call for applicants to present roles on 2FM, with the broadcaster reportedly set to offer auditions to around 150 hopefuls.
