Their bodies were discovered on Saturday morning.
The two men who died following a tragic drowning incident in Dublin’s Grand Canal have been named locally.
The bodies of Donal Scanlon (49) and Alex Warnick (42) were discovered on Saturday morning at a section of the canal near Grand Parade.
The two men are both believed to have been homeless and it is understood that one of men got into difficulty in the water and the second one died trying to save him.
Mr Scanlon was originally from Ballybunion and had been sleeping rough in Dublin for a number of years, while Mr Warnick is believed to have been from the US.

In a statement to JOE on Saturday, a Garda spokesperson said the bodies of the men in their 40s were discovered on Saturday morning (6 July) in the Grand Parade area of the capital.
“Shortly after 8am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of a body in the canal at Grand Parade,” the spokesperson stated.
“The bodies of two males, aged in their 40s, were recovered from the canal a short time later. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Gardaí confirmed that the Office of the State Pathologist and the local Coroner had been notified.
“The results of post-mortem examinations and local enquiries will determine the course of Garda investigations,” the spokesperson added.
