Remember when they were predicting the coldest winter in 50 years?
Yeah, about that, ehm… it appears we were wrong to believe it. Now let’s move on.
Temperatures across the country are set to rise to a far less slippy 10 degrees after last night’s widespread frost and ice.
Drivers are still being urged to take care on the roads, with milder conditions on the way.
“Generally the whole trend has been for mild weather this season so far, but there have been brief interludes of colder weather, and really that’s not surprising – it is the middle of winter,” said Met Eireann’s John Eagleton.
“So sometimes we get rain going through and then we get colder air behind it, but it’s then pushed aside by southerly winds coming up, bringing that milder air up from the south.
“Overall, it’s been a mild winter.”
