Temperatures could drop as low as -5 tonight

The cold snap persists

Tony Cuddihy

Motorists are urged to be careful as the roads remain treacherous.

Snow showers in Ulster and Connacht resulted in accumulations of up to 3cm overnight, while there were light dustings of snow elsewhere.

While there will be some scattered wintry showers throughout the day, Sunday will mostly be dry and sunny.

Temperatures will drop as low as -5 degrees tonight and motorists are advised to slow down, take extra care and remember stopping distances are ten times longer in snow and ice.

The cold snap will last at least until Wednesday, with severe night frosts and wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow.
