Thundery downpours and spot flooding expected tonight as crazy spell of weather continues

Damn nature, you scary!

Damn nature, you scary!

This time last week, we were all basking in a rare yet extremely spell of glorious mid-April sunshine.

One week on, it’ll feel like winter all over again after a fairly dramatic change in conditions, even by Irish standards.

Met Eireann are predicting widespread thundery showers throughout the country this evening, showers that might even become wintry on higher ground in northern areas.

With thundery showers prevalent, there is also chance of spot flooding in places later tonight, with temperatures set to drop to as low as freezing with frost developing in some areas as conditions become bitter overnight.

Tomorrow, meanwhile, is expected to start off dry before the rain hits again in the afternoon and the initial forecast for the following few days isn’t much better either we’re afraid.

‘Tis a grand country if we could only put a roof on it.
