First snow of the winter expected in Ireland on Saturday

Tony Cuddihy

It’s going to get an awful lot colder, folks.

With the winds from Storm Barney only easing late on Wednesday night, temperatures across the country are set to drop as wintry showers move in on Saturday.

Northern and western counties will be the worst affected as snow moves in on Saturday, while winds will ease only slightly as we move into the weekend.

Storm Barney wreaked havoc in many parts, with winds gusting up to 100kph and treacherous road conditions throughout the country.

Following the storm, both homes and businesses in Delvin, Gorey, Kilmartin, Ennistymon, Enniscorthy, Ennis, Thurles, Baltinglass, Mountrath, Newscastlewest and Killcullen were among the last to see power restored on Wednesday night.
