This winter in Ireland has been one of the wettest on record

The alphabet has been pummelling us for months now.

From Storm Abigail to Storm Jake, we’ve been well and truly battered as a country ever since Teresa Mannion made her unnecessary journey to Salthill.

Well, now we have confirmation from the Met Office that we’ve just had one of the wettest winters in the last century, with February particularly awful.

One weather station recorded the highest level of rainfall since 1885, with Storm Frank and Storm Desmond causing widespread destruction.

Roche’s Point in Co. Cork was one of the wettest areas of the country – registering a total rainfall of 682.8 mm, more than double the normal amount at 248%.
