This was the coldest place in Ireland on Monday morning

Tony Cuddihy

And it’s not getting warmer any time soon.

If you were out and about on Monday morning, the first thing you should have done was turn back, take off your coat and scarf, put on the heating and crawl back into bed.

Why? Two reasons. It was Monday and it was bloody freezing.

If you were living near Markree in Sligo at 10am this morning, our sympathies go out to you – it was the coldest spot in the country at -2C.

What’s more, it had actually plunged as low as -5C in the smaller hours of the morning.

And the bad news? It’s not getting any better.

Tonight’s going to be messy…

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow and Meath.

It states that: Very strong north to northeast winds developing on Monday afternoon and continuing until Tuesday morning. Winds will reach speeds of 55 to 65 km/h in coastal regions with gusts between 90 and 110 km/h. Storm force winds are likely offshore.
